Konica Minolta Named Among Top 100 Global Innovators 2022 by Clarivate

Tokyo (March 16, 2022) – Konica Minolta, Inc. (Konica Minolta) announced that Clarivate Plc, a U.K.-based global information service company (Clarivate), named Konica Minolta among the Top 100 Global Innovators 2022 (Top 100 Innovators).

To create this list, Clarivate uses its own intellectual property and patent data to identify companies and organizations that have met the qualifying criteria of having filed 500 or more patent applications since 2000 and been granted 100 or more patents during the past five years, and then evaluates the identified candidates in terms of four factors – “Influence,” “Success,” “Globalization” and “Technical distinctiveness.” Starting from the selection of Top 100 Innovators 2022, Clarivate places greater importance than before on the value of individual inventions in the process of assessing innovativeness.

Supporting Business Plans with Intellectual Property Strategies

Under “Transform 2016” and “SHINKA 2019,” its medium-term business plans implemented between fiscal 2014 and 2019, Konica Minolta worked on transforming its business portfolios in anticipation of the growth of paperless transactions. To support these plans, the company launched an intellectual property strategy focusing on acquiring basic patents, as well as on quantifying and improving the quality of its patents. Currently, Konica Minolta is transforming its business portfolios through digital transformation (DX) centering on its proprietary imaging IoT platform under DX2022, a new medium-term business plan that started in fiscal 2020. To support this plan, the company is implementing an intellectual property strategy to facilitate the transformation of its patent portfolios by concentrating its intellectual property resources on those patents that can be true sources of corporate competitiveness, such as imaging AI technology.

Konica Minolta believes that its inclusion on the list of Top 100 Innovators 2022 is evidence that the high-quality patent portfolios it has built through these strategies have been recognized as “highly valuable intellectual properties that can generate innovations.”

With the understanding that intellectual properties are the source of value creation, Konica Minolta remains committed to creating new values that bring innovations to society, and building high-quality intellectual property portfolios that facilitate business growth by continuing appropriate investments.

Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

Leyard Display Technology Stuns at 2022 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony

Another Miracle of the Chinese National Stadium

As was to be expected after the spectacular opening of the Summer Games in 2008, the opening ceremony for the Winter Games in 2022 in Beijing was characterised by a fireworks display of visual effects based on digital displays and lighting. Especially due to the reduction of human actors, which was also due to the corona, the media technology was even more in the focus of the staging compared to the opening of the Summer Games at the same location 14 years ago.

A total of about 15,000 square metres of LED material were installed for the show planned by the Chinese star director Zhang Yimou in the Beijing stadium, the so-called Bird’s Nest. With about 11,000 square metres, the lion’s share came from Leyard.

Hardware, software and services: the future of AV

The nature of AV is evolving. And the changing landscape is getting even more complex as hybrid work, real-time data access and remote collaboration become the standard. In a recent interview with AVNetwork, we shared our vision on a unified hardware-software-services proposition and agile portfolio to navigate the changing markets.

The migration to software-driven applications and cloud-based services

The global IT SaaS (software-as-a-service) market continues to soar and isexpected to hit $436.9 billion by 2025.In the last decade, this trend has progressed to the proAV industry which is steadily marching along a similar software-reliant trajectory.

And the rapid shift to remote teaching, learning, and working during Covid-19 underscored the need for intuitive software and managed services even more. The new world asks for a unified, data-driven approach to ProAV software, hardware, and services.

In a high-end meeting room, for instance, clients want much more than a standard video setup. Now, it’s about creating—and maintaining—truly multifunctional solutions that unite on-site and remote workers. Clients are demanding versatile tools with access to the cloud, collaboration software, and video conferencing apps.

The holy trinity: an integrated portfolio of hardware, software and services

In 2019, Barco first mentioned the ambition to step up our service portfolio and sharpened the software capabilities. Since then, we have transformed from a market-leading hardware company to a full solutions partner leveraging the combination of innovative hardware with premium software and a service offering.

From our hybrid classroom solutionto the different remote collaboration platforms, we invest in forward-looking solutions that support the future way of working for all our customers. Some examples:

  • With new software solutions such as NexxisCareandNexxisLive, we have now started building up a portfolio of SaaS building blocks that makes it easier to remotely manage ORs and to involve the necessary people, wherever they are.
  • With ClickShare Conference ,our wireless conferencing system, and the accompanying ClickShare Desktop App youeasilyturn any space into a hybrid meeting space connecting all participants, in-room or remote, in a matter of seconds.
  • The new Management Suites for projectors and video wallsoffer an IoT platform to monitor, diagnose and control your fleet from one central location. The cloud-based solution facilitates stress-free administration and easier remote serviceability.

Celebrating over 30 Years of LED Technology

OKI pioneered the use of LED technology in printers for over three decades. LED is at the heart of OKI’s printer technology innovations and it’s a technology we continue to refine and improve.

To celebrate the incredible capabilities of LED printing and the many advantages it offers compared to laser printing, here are 10 reasons all companies should choose LED printers over other technology.

  1. Easy maintenance

OKI LED technology contains no moving parts; this means there are fewer components to fail and makes maintenance and repair much easier.

  2. Superior print quality

OKI’s LED technology allows for varying levels of intensity for every printed dot. This produces a higher level of detail and greater colour depth, enabling businesses to produce professional-quality prints in house.

  3. Superior speed

While laser printers print using a beam that tracks back and forth across the drum, in LED printers a number of LEDs flash the entire line all at once. This means LED printers can print faster, improving productivity.

  4. Compact size

As the LED print heads don’t move, LED printers can be much smaller than other devices. OKI’s products are among the smallest in the market and can fit into any office or retail environment.

  5. Precision

OKI’s LED printers and MFPs can print incredibly small dot sizes for a highly accurate output (LED dot-size precision), particularly on fine text. You can test it yourself by printing out the entirety of Daniel Defoe’s novel Robinson Crusoe on a single page. View your printout with a magnifying glass to see how clear the text is.

  6. Environmentally friendly

LED technology uses less material resources in production and less energy in operation, and OKI also offers duplex printing across the range.

  7. Unrivalled Media Flexibility

OKI combines LED technology with a single-pass flat paper path, which offers best-in-class print speed, and unrivalled media handling capability from A6 up to 1.32m in length and up to 360gsm in weight to support all your printing needs from business cards to banners.

  8. Quality duplex printing

With LED technology it’s easy to print, copy or scan in duplex without diminishing print quality. Unlike inkjet technology, where the ink soaks into paper, LED technology fuses the toner onto paper. This eliminates show-through when duplexing and you don’t have to wait for paper to dry before printing on the other side.

  9. No compromise

For quality printing using inkjet technology, you have to either slow the speed right down or buy expensive special media. With LED there is no such compromise; prints are always good quality, always high speed, and there’s no need for special media.

  10. Reliability

As mentioned, there are no moving parts to break in LED printers, making them more reliable and durable. Plus, OKI’s digital LED printers use a straight-line paper path (Single Pass Colour) that’s less susceptible to jams when feeding heavy stock, such as envelopes or labels.
